Mason has recently been in a reading binge. He's always been into reading but for the past week he's really wanted to be read to and he likes to be read the same book multiple times! his 2 favorite books are
Mommy Loves Her Baby/Daddy Loves His Baby by Tara Jaye Morrow. You can find it Amazon.com, I randomly found this book on Amazon before Mason was born. It's a nice book that has something for Mums and Dads. You flip it over and read the story as the other parent. The most I've read Mason this book is 5 times in a row, different voices and rhythms, but he still doesn't get bored of it.
The other book he loves is one he got from his Auntie Kay and Uncle Richard. It's Cat Balloon by Paul Morgan. You can also get this on Amazon.com and the weird part is that our version which came from Australia has the author as Palo Morgan so I dunno if the Amazon changed his name to make him more acceptable to Americas?
So Tues we decided to start to wean Mason off his binky. We weren't sure how easy it would be as Mason loves his binky! We didn't think we could simply ask him to trade his binky in for something he really wanted or have him throw his binky out in the garbage like my parents did to me as he has so many binkys. So we decided to have him go cold turkey, yes we're mean parents :-) And so far he hasn't really missed it, there was a couple of times Wed night where he wanted his binky in the middle of the night, but we gave him his water bottle and he was good with it. He's also stuck his fingers in his mouth, but we ask him to take them out of his mouth when we catch him and he does. So hopefully he's past the binky stage!
When we first heard American Boy by Estelle feat Kanye West we thought it would be a pretty appropriate song for Mason as he is an American Boy. Now Mason loves this song too, he grooves and dances to it when he hears it in the car or at home.
So to celebrate the 17th anniversary of our first date Lien and I decided to catch dinner and a movie, by ourselves. We asked our friends Lorna and Omz to babysit for us. Now we've gone out and left Mason with others before, but this was the first time it was with anyone, but family. Lorna and Omz are Zoe's parents and Zoe is Mason's best friend. She's a week older than him and they are playdate buddies and love to hang out together so we were pretty sure he'd do well with them. We dropped Mason off at 5ish and returned back at around 9:30ish. And what did we find when we came back? A really happy Mason! He was playing with them all in Zoe's room having a grand time. When Mason saw us he was super excited and practically jumped off the bed he was so happy to see us! Mason was great with them the whole time and now we know we can trade baby sitting times with them so more date nights for us in the future!!!
So we left for Toronto today for a 2 week vacation to visit more of Mason's rellys. Mason was a champ on the plane ride eating on the way up and down so he was able to pop his ears and not get stuffed up. It was a 4.5 hr flight and he made friends with the lady sitting next to us. Pics to come!
This morning I gave Mason some tummy time on our couch. I put him down like I normally do, he was in a good mood as he just finished up a session in the crib watching his Looney Tunes mobile. He laid down for about a minute, wriggling his arms and legs a little and then planted his left hand palm down and pushed down and rolled himself over! It was amazing!!! We'll have to try and catch it on video!
So today we went to the Digital Moose Lounge Annual Canada Day Picnic in Huddart Park, Woodside. We went there with Tim, Rena and Evy Critchley as well as Rena's parents who were visiting from Vancouver. It's always nice to get together with our fellow Canucks.
As usual we took a bunch of pics, my favorite is the first one below. To me it's a classic mother/son pic, you can totally tell they're related, same expression, Mason's got his Mum's nose, classic I tell ya!
The video below is when the group sang O Canada when Mason was sleeping so you can hear him midway through crying a little, but in tune then at the end he was like "Dang big people, why did you wake me up!".
So this weekend I went on my first trip away from home! We went to Santa Cruz, CA it was so much fun! We stayed at a nice resort called the Chaminade. It was pretty cool although my parents took a while to figure out how to work one of the sinks. Big people can be a little slow some times, but that's ok I love them anyhow! We walked along the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz and my Mum ate a smoked turkey leg pretty much all by herself. Mum says she doesn't want to see turkey for a long, long time now!
So today I went to my first concert! It was the Alice 97.3 Summerthing annual concert up at Golden Gate Park. We were there with Uncle Tim, Auntie Rena and Evy. It was Evy's first concert too! We had fun sitting in the back taking in the music which is a lot different than my nursery rhymes. Put me to sleep for a little bit :-) I got to hang out with my Mum in my little tent, can't wait for my next concert!
So after a long day of tiring the little guy out and myself getting pretty tired as well. Mason went to bed at 10:30pm and slept all the way to 6:00am. A nice Father's Day gift to me! Thanks Mason!!! Hopefully he keep it up!
